Tantalum 10% Tungsten is Also called 90-10 tantalum, Ta-10W, or KBI-10 supplied exclusively by Cabot. This is one of the oldest and most widely used tantalum alloys.

Principal Design Features Also called 90-10 tantalum, Ta-10W, or KBI-10 supplied exclusively by Cabot. This is one of the oldest and most widely used tantalum alloys. Tantalum 10% Tungsten Applications Used in the aerospace industry for hot-gas valves, rocket engine skirts and in the chemical industry for corrosion resistant valves and liners. Tantalum 10% Tungsten Machinability Machining should be done using high speed steel tooling, or carbide cutting tools with water soluble oil for lubrication. The alloy machines much the same as annealed stainless steel. Tantalum 10% Tungsten Forming Conventional forming methods as spinning, bending, drawing work well with this alloy. Tantalum 10% Tungsten Corrosion Resistance This alloy is attacked by hydrofluoric acid and also will oxidize in air at temperatures above 570 F. It does have excellent corrosion resistance to most acids (other than hydrofluoric) and to liquid metals. Tantalum 10% Tungsten Welding The alloy may be welded by GTAW (gas tungsten-arc weld) electron beam, gas metal-arc welding (GMAW) and by resistance welding. Tantalum 10% Tungsten Heat Treatment Not heat treatable for hardness. See "Annealing". Tantalum 10% Tungsten Forging Forge at 2200 down to 1500 F. Tantalum 10% Tungsten Hot Working Hot working such as extrusion may be done at 3000 to 2700 F. Hot rolling, or similar working, can be done at 950 F down to 200 F. Tantalum 10% Tungsten Cold Working The alloy may be cold worked by conventional methods without difficulty. Tantalum 10% Tungsten Annealing Anneal at 2400 to 2900 F. Stress relief anneal at 1025 F. Tantalum 10% Tungsten Aging Not applicable. Tantalum 10% Tungsten Tempering Not applicable. Tantalum 10% Tungsten Hardening Hardens by cold working. -
